Honouring Dr Tony Heilberg
A Legacy of Care, Community and Compassion
For over four decades, Dr Tony Heilberg was a familiar and trusted face at Cheltenham Dental. After graduating from Melbourne University, Tony began his journey in general dentistry before founding his own practice in 1980. Since 1987, he worked from his Cheltenham surgery, building not just a practice, but a true dental home for generations of families.
Dr Tony's vision was always clear: to provide ethical, high-quality dental care in a warm, family-oriented environment. With more than 30 years of experience, he became known not only for his clinical expertise, but for the genuine relationships he formed with patients, many of whom he considered personal friends.
Tony holds a Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and is a proud member of the Australian Dental Association. A lifelong learner, he remained committed to continuing education to ensure his patients received the very best in modern dental care.
Beyond the clinic, Tony shared his wisdom as a mentor to young dental graduates, guiding the next generation with generosity and integrity. His impact on both patients and colleagues is lasting.
When not in the practice, Tony enjoyed walking, photography, cycling and playing violin with the Frankston Symphony Orchestra, pursuits that reflect his love for balance, beauty and community.
Although Tony had originally planned to continue practising for longer, he made the heartfelt decision to step away from full-time dentistry. Saying goodbye to his valued patients, many of whom he treated for decades, was not easy. He sincerely thanks you all for the trust, loyalty and joy you brought to his career.
While this chapter has now closed, Tony’s legacy lives on in the healthy mouths he helped maintain and in the values that continue to guide Cheltenham Dental.
